Smoother roads in Porterville

Porterville has invested Measure R local funds in improvement and protection of local road surfaces, with microsurfacing of roads throughout the community. The City of Porterville received about $960,000 in Measure R funds in 2009-2010, which was used to help fund a 2.3-mile microsurfacing project on the following streets:
  • 56 miles of Main Street, between Morton Avenue and Henderson Avenue;
  • 38 miles of Orange Avenue between D Street and Jaye Street;
  • 48 miles of Jaye Street between Date Avenue to Olive Avenue;
  • 44 miles of Henderson Avenue between Prospect Street and Indiana Street;
    and .48 miles of Prospect Street from Henderson Avenue to Westfield Avenue.

Clean Air Projects

Porterville has utilized the Clean Air Projects category of Measure R to purchase a bus that allowed the city to add a new route, and expand two existing routes.

Work is now under way on a Tule River Bikeway project that will be funded in part by Measure R. This project will encourage both commuter and recreational uses.
