Spending Measure R

Measure R money can only be spent according to the Final 2006 1/2 Cent Transportation Sales Tax Measure Expenditure Plan. The plan details four funding pots for Measure R spending:

  • Regional Transportation Program — $326.4 million or 50 percent of Measure R funds will be spent to improve freeway interchanges, add additional lanes, increase safety and improve and reconstruct major commute corridors.
  • Local Transportation Program — 228.4 million over the thirty year period or 35 percent of Measure R funds will be spent to improve each individual city and the County’s local transportation systems.  This includes things such as pothole repair, repaving streets, bridge repair, traffic signals, sidewalk improvement and more.

  • Multi-Modal Transportation Program — $91.3 million or 14 percent of Measure R funds will be spent to improve public transit programs, improve mobility with the addition of bike lanes and improve air quality and environment. These funds cover new routes, low emission buses, night and weekend transit service, bus shelters, safer access, regional bike routes, environmental mitigation and preliminary light rail investment.
  • Administration and planning program — 1 percent of Measure R funds will go to TCAG to help carry out Measure R.
